Faced with what was supposed to be a tough re-election race in 2012, Brown could have taken the easy way out when Ohio Governor John Kasich signed legislation attacking the collective-bargaining rights of public employees. Instead, Brown leapt into the fight, speaking and rallying with the workers of Ohio and even turning what had been his campaign website into a vehicle for the movement to overturn the antilabor law. It was a gutsy move, but it paid off. Brown’s poll numbers soared as Kasich’s plummeted.

If I ever get the ”signed photo” I paid/contributed $35  for three weeks ago, I’ll be happy for him!

President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team is asking potential appointees detailed questions about gun ownership, and firearms advocates aren’t happy about it.

Oh no! Gun nuts aren’t happy!

It’s just one question on a lengthy personnel form — No. 59 on a 63-question list — but the furor over the query is a vivid reminder of the intensity of support for Second Amendment rights and signals the scrutiny Obama is likely to receive from the ever-vigilant gun lobby.

One freaking question and their freaking out! Isn’t that enough right there to tell you that these people are gun nuts?  Here’s the controversial question -

“Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.” 

Yeah, that’s just so threatening to gun owners! This is how threatening it is to one Republican senator.

“It’s very odd and very concerning to put out a question like that,” said Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), adding that it may also be “unprecedented.”

The freshman senator, who is up for reelection in 2010, had his campaign organization send an e-mail to supporters this week, pledging to enact legislation to bar federal hiring discrimination on the basis of gun ownership.

“Barack Obama promised change, and this is proof positive that we are going to see some of the most liberal change in our nation’s history,” wrote DeMint’s campaign in the e-mail.

Of all the discrimination in employment, I hardly think that gun ownership is the most prevalent.  At least we’re going to see “the most liberal change in our nation’s history”!

Single issue voters annoy the hell out of me. Those who vote only on the basis of gay marriage, or abortion. I think that the single issue gun nut voters are the ones that annoy me the most though.  How is it, that when our country has so many problems, and we’re on the verge of another Great Depression, unrestricted gun ownership can possibly be someones top issue?

I have a solution. Let’s take Alaska, governed by Right Wing Queen Sarah Palin. Her husband was apparently part of a group that wanted to secede from the union. Here’s their chance! I say, take Alaska, give it to all the homophobic, anti-choice on abortion, war lovers and gun nuts! Sarah Palin can rule this little right wing country and leave the rest of us the hell alone!

Sean Hannity has been ranting about the “radicals” taking over and about “Conservatism In Exile”. Rush Limbaugh is ranting about the “Obama Recession“.  “The Obama recession is in full swing, ladies and gentlemen.”  Oh really? He was elected three days ago, yet the Bush Recession 2 is Obama’s fault?   “This is an Obama recession.  Might turn into a depression.  He hasn’t done anything yet but his ideas are killing the economy.  His ideas are killing Wall Street.”  Forget the Reagan/Bush trickle down economic theory, it’s Barack Obama’s ideas, that are killing the economy! 74 days before he even takes office!  Barack Obama has some pretty powerful ideas!

Gun nuts are freaking out too. 

“When 10-year-old Austin Smith heard Barack Obama had been elected president, he had one question: Does this mean I won’t get a new gun for Christmas?”

Call me an elitist all you want, but personally, I think it’s pretty pathetic when that is a 10 year old’s first thought after the most historic election in our nation’s history. 

“That brought his mother, the camouflage-clad Rachel Smith, to Bob Moates Sports Shop on Thursday, where she was picking out that special 20-gauge shotgun — one of at least five weapons she plans to buy before Obama takes office in January.”

She needs “five weapons” before Obama takes office.  To paraphrase Joe Biden’s response to the gun nut in the Youtube debate – if she needs five weapons before January, she needs help.

“Obama has said he respects Americans’ Second Amendment right to bear arms, but that he favors “common sense” gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he’ll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault and concealed weapons.”

Argue all you want about concealed weapons (I’m against it), but I’m sorry, you’re a gun nut if you’re against an assault weapons ban.

“During the campaign, the NRA warned that Obama would be the “most antigun president in American history.”

Good. I doubt that’s the truth, but good.

“And while Vice President-elect Joe Biden owns shotguns, he has supported a ban on assault weapons and has said private sellers at gun shows should be required to perform background checks.”

I guess this is pretty bad news to gun nuts. 

Three days since the election, and the right is already freaking out.  They’ve had their eight years, and we’ve all seen how it’s worked out. Let us on the left savor this victory while we can. Then get to work on fixing the economy and fighting off the attacks of these “conservatives” in “exile”.

I first heard about this Why Tuesday organization because my favorite actress, Kirsten Dunst, is doing some work with them.  The site explains why we vote on tuesday, and then is advocating changing to weekend voting.  They claim it will increase voter turnout.  They ask, “why do we vote on Tuesday, a day smack in the middle of the work week?”   This is my problem with their idea.  “Middle of the work week”.  Others claim that weekend voting will help the poor because apparently, they think low income workers are lucky enough to have weekends off -  ”They argue Tuesday voting has depressed voter turnout rates in the US, and unfairly penalizes low-income voters who often choose between having to work and voting.”

The idea that Monday through Friday is the “work week” is not only outdated, it’s insulting to the people that they claim they are looking out for. Let’s face it. The millions of people who work in fast food or retail work weekends. Most of them, both days of every weekend. Their managers (making a whole lot more money than them) work a lot of the weekends too. Doctors, nurses, police, firefighters, work weekends. The weather person on your local television news who talks about “the upcoming work week” on a Sunday, is there, working.   For that reason alone, I’m against moving it to the weekend. While they claim they want to help “low income” Americans, I think they’re actually trying to help the white collar 9-5 (or how ever late their pathetic workaholic asses work) guys. 

Turns out, Kirsten Dunst herself isn’t for weekend voting.  “I would keep it the same day, just make it a holiday.” I agree.  Keep it on tuesday, make it a holiday (or at least make it so your employer legally must give you time to vote), and expand early voting.

“I absolutely adore him and I’ll do whatever is necessary to help him become the next president. I’m so excited that he is running… I think he can do a lot for people of my generation. He’s such a dashing statesman. I love that he just lays it all on the table. He already wrote the book. He’s just everything you want a president to be.”

Next Tuesday, make sure you vote (for Obama)!

On thursday Sarah Palin said that Barack Obama is, “hiding his real agenda of re-distributing your hard-earned money” and that “now is not the time to experiment with socialism”.

Let’s see, “re-distributing your hard-earned money”, as in the $700 billion dollars of tax payers money to Wall Street? “Experiment with socialism”? You mean like the corporate socialism our government approved for Wall Street?  

Seems like McCain must be a “hard-earned money” redistributor and “experimenting with socialism” then, since he was for the bailout.
